Stephen Ryan’s aspirations to become a pilot stretch the world over. From the moment he heard the humming of helicopters from above as a child, his skyward gaze would never waiver. Born and raised in Ireland, his desire to become a pilot wasn’t commonplace, but nor was it limited by geographic boundaries. And he didn’t just want to be a pilot, he wanted to fly some of the most advanced and capable helicopters ever built. In fact, this guy exacted a plan that’s not easy to pull off even for the most skilled pilot, but as it turns out, his devotion and willingness to realize his professional potential afforded him personal experiences of a lifetime.
Stephen’s notable work as a professional pilot spans from all over Western Europe, West Africa, Central Asia, and even as far south as the Falkland Islands. These days, Stephen flies for a renowned law enforcement agency, the Maryland Police Aviation Command. As a Captain, he oversees an impressive multi-mission capable aircraft, not to mention a multi-capable crew. Together they provide valiant services to their community.
It’s not Stephen’s many inspiring accomplishments that leave a lasting impression, it’s his sensibility and eagerness to help others. Outside of his service to the State of Maryland, he runs a blog that invites his fellow aviators to share their stories of “How did I get here?” – a meaningful, yet candid insight for aspiring aviators and enthusiasts. And not one to idle for long, you’ll find him outdoors, stoke chasing waves or the slopes during his spare time.
Stephen’s goals don’t equate to crossing a finish-line because he’s ever aspiring to seek enriching experiences in and out of the cockpit. We're unashamedly stating the obvious here, but Aviator Mercantile Post is proud to have him as one of our Ambassadors - his devoted pursuits certainly embody what the Ambassador initiative is all about: penning your own storied journey.
